At least 15 are dead, including a Canadian woman, as Hurricane Ivan makes its way across the Caribbean and slammed Grenada.
The storm reducing concrete homes to rubble and knocked out electricity and water to thousands. The island's signature red roofs were ripped off, trees were uprooted, and the national broadcaster was knocked off the air.
A 17th-century prison was also destroyed, freeing inmates.
The Canadian woman drowned by Ivan was a 75-year-old Toronto native, who lived in Barbados for 30 years.
The hurricane has now strengthened to be a rare category 5 storm, the highest on the scale. It is the most powerful hurricane to hit the Caribbean in 10 years. Winds have been measured at 260 km/h winds as it now heads to Jamaica, Cuba, and the US.
Previously, the hurricane damaged hundreds of homes in Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and thousands were without electricity.
Florida Keys residents are again being told to evacuate. Hurricane Frances, which hit the area Sunday, killed nine and caused an estimated $5 billion in damage.
