Nasa's $260 Million Blunder

  • A spacecraft carrying dust expected to offer clues about the solar system's origin crashed into the Utah desert Wedneday, after its parachute failed to open. The Genesis capsule, whose cargo would have been the first material recovered from space by NASA in more than 30 years, plunged to Earth at 310 km/h and hit with the force of a freight train. NASA said it will not know for weeks whether the sample – part of a six-year project that cost $260 million US – was destroyed.
