Almost two million people are under evacuation alert.
Landfall for the aggressive Hurricane Charley is expected late Friday afternoon, and not since the 1930’s has a tropical storm taken such a potentially disastrous course over the state.
Charley has winds up to 201 km/h, and is being classed as a category three storm.
Experts say a storm surge of between 10 and 20 feet of water could cover parts of the coastline.
Forecasters say the storm may get even closer before reaching Florida.
