Lockdown-free New Zealand enjoys 20,000-person concert

Big concert, no masks

On Saturday, the people of New Zealand enjoyed a 20,000 person concert after going weeks without any new COVID-19 infections.

Crowds were packed into an outdoor concert in Waitangi and people danced side-by-side without any masks.

The country of approximately 5 million people was on a seven-week stay-at-home order in March 2020.

New Zealand has been living lockdown-free by strictly controlling its borders and coming down hard on outbreaks when they do occur.

Today, the country announced 6 new COVID-19 cases, all linked to international travel. The total number of active cases in New Zealand is 76.

At Saturday's concert, Six60 performed for what was the biggest social gathering in the nation since COVID-19 began.
