Wild shootout erupts between El Chapo's son and Mexican police

El Chapo son gun battle

Gun violence has erupted in Mexico after a wild west shootout in the city of Culiacan, Sinaloa.

The gunfight spilled out over the streets after Mexican authorities located one of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s sons, who is wanted in the U.S. on drug trafficking charges.

Ovidio Guzman Lopez was located Thursday and briefly taken into custody before the house they were in was surrounded by heavily armed men.

When it became clear that the opposing force had superior numbers and firepower, authorities decided to suspend the operation.

A lawyer for El Chapo's family has told the Associated Press that “Ovidio is alive and free.”

Guzman's sons are believed to currently run their father’s Sinaloa Cartel.
