2019 Ex Nihilo red blend

Wine: Night (red blend), 2019

Winery: Ex Nihilo, Lake Country

Why drink it? A Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, if you spend some time with this wine you can find elements of each varietal represented in the flavours and structure, the latter amplified by thoughtful blending, malolactic fermentation, and aging in French oak. The Merlot and two Cabs dominate the aromas with cassis, cocoa bean, dark cherries, and hints of leather. On the palate you’ll find vanilla from the oak, ripe raspberries, and dark chocolate. A long finish with present tannins worthy of aging for another three to five years.

Pair with: Roasted meats. Lamb, beef stew, steak night, filet mignon if you’re fancy. You might be able to pair with a barbecue pulled pork creation with lots of flavour, or your favourite version of a Shepherd’s Pie or a hearty burger.

Price: $50

Music pairing: When the Night Comes, Joe Cocker
