2019 Hester Creek Character red blend

Hester Creek red blend

Wine: Character (red blend), 2019

Winery: Hester Creek, Oliver

Why drink it? The Character blends from Hester (both the white and red versions), are good bottles to have on hand for everyday life. This vintage is a mélange of Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc, and the experience begins with aromas of blueberries, wild blackberry bushes, pepper and spices. The body and flavours are inviting after the first sip, clean and not too complicated: ripe dark plums, red fruits, some creaminess thanks to French oak and malolactic fermentation. Meant to be thoroughly enjoyed without overthinking, just grab a bottle and sip away.

Pair with: Burger night, whether you grill your own or give in to a good takeout choice (opt to include a smoked cheese slice on your patty), a hearty veggie or meat lasagna. A pulled pork grilled cheese with a side of roasted potato salad did the trick too.

Price: $20

Music pairing: Jump, Madonna
