Typical Syrah white pepper and smokey notes

Stag's Hollow Rosé

Wine: Rosé, 2019

Winery: Stag’s Hollow, Okanagan Falls

Why drink it? Celebrating its silver anniversary this year, the “hollow” is clearly visible from the winery’s relatively new deck, and a relatively new winemaker has created this dry rosé that is delightfully aromatic. Notes of strawberry fields, watermelon, pink grapefruit, graceful hints of anise and pepper on the nose. A light salmon-rose colour in the glass, the aromatics complement flavours from the Syrah and Zweigelt in the bottle, the combo giving some body and structure with typical Syrah white pepper and smokey notes harmonizing with the Zweigelt’s red fruits and earthy undertones.

Price: $24

Pair with: Takeout Indian dishes, spicy nachos made at home, a veggie or tuna poke bowl with reasonable wasabi mixed in (or on the side). Grilled salmon or hot buffalo wings from the grill, or a spinach and strawberry salad with a light lime and pepper vinaigrette.

Music pairing: How Soon is Now, The Smiths
