Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Wine: Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Winery: Liliac, Romania

Why drink it? And now for something different, found at the recent Vancouver International Wine Festival. Liliac, “The Wine of Transylvania”, and was one of two Romanian wineries in the tasting room (the first from Romania to ever attend VIWF). Finding this will be next to impossible (for now), it’s an example of a very different sauv blanc. Golden colour, a more vibrant than expected bouquet of floral notes and fresh cut grass. More full bodied than you would expect, nice minerality and a citrus finish. This spring try a sauv blanc from BC next to one from a different country and note the differences.

Price: 14 Euros

Pair with: Just about any sauvignon blanc will pair with herbed seafood and shellfish. As spring approaches and salads are (re) emerging on the table, start planning dishes with kale, leeks, asparagus, and artichokes, because farmers’ market season is coming.

Music pairing: Moonlight (A Vampire’s Dream), Stevie Nicks
