Wine: Major’s Block (red blend), 2015
Winery: See Ya Later Ranch, Okanagan Falls
Why drink it? An easy to sip red blend of Shiraz, Zinfandel, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Merlot, the name pays homage to the homesteader who first settled on this winery’s steep slopes. The aromas are ripe and full after letting them mingle in your glass – mocha layered over plums and dark cherry jam with some vanilla owing to the wine resting in French and American oak. A lush flavour profile brings further spice notes, ripe red raspberry and strawberry elements and a lighter cherry than hinted at on the nose. A soft finish rounds out a well-balanced red wine at a very nice price.
Price: $20
Pair with: A nice blend for an evening when your better half is making a homemade version of lasagna with layers of beef and ricotta while you labour through the first sniffles of the season. Sip a glass with some aged hard cheeses as an appetizer.
Classic CanCon music pairing: Some Days Are Better, Charlie Major
