Canuck Place Fundraiser - Isla's 3rd Birthday

A few weeks ago I got the following email from Karrie Faucher. Rather than try and put this story into my own words, I wanted to share her to share her families story.

Our second child was born April, 27th 2009 and about a week after her birth she was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. She was given a less than 10% chance of surviving until her first birthday. We were obviously devastated and took her home expecting her to die at any given moment. The first year was very stressful for our family and as we approached her momentous first birthday I wanted to do something big to celebrate and also give back to those who had helped us along the way.

We were so thankful for all the nursing support we had received (and still are receiving) as well as the respite and knowledge provided by Canuck Place Children's Hospice. I decided that a charity birthday party, with all proceeds going to Canuck Place Children's Hospice, was a wonderful idea and approached Summerhill Pyramid Winery.

Summerhill was 100% supportive of our idea and so we began to plan for Isla's first charity bday bash!! We gathered silent auction items from local businesses and invited friends, family and those who had played a role in Isla's first year. It was quite successful and we managed to raise just under $5,000.

As her third birthday approaches we have decided to hold the event once again, however, we have decided to open it up to the public this year in hopes of raising more money for Canuck Place Children's Hospice. The event will be held at Summerhill on April, 14th.

I often get asked to write about events but honestly this one tugged on every heartstring I had.

Let's help them raise the $8000 that they want to raise for Canuck Place Children's Hospice.

The event happens this Saturday. Here is the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/226092634153956/

Tickets are available at Funktional, Asphalt by emailing Karrie ([email protected]) or Summerhill ([email protected]).

They are $20 for Adults and $10 for Kids 5 and under. That includes the cost of gourmet appies, entertainment, and a glass of bubbly.

Folks, let's get out there and support this event. If you can't attend I am sure there are items you can donate to the silent auction or donations that can be made to the Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
