Film Factory

Kelowna is steadily evolving into a hub of film and animation. As I noted last week part of that will be showcased at the Kelowna Fan Xpo happening this weekend (story below).
This week I wanted to go a step further and introduce you to one of Kelowna's latest innovative hubs for creatives in Kelowna. The Film Factory has actually been around for a few years now but in the past few months much of their vision has started to become a reality.
They currently have 10 small businesses hosted in their building including anything from graphic designers, photographers, videographers, scriptwriters, marketing etc.

Co-owner Kelly Veltri describes it as "We wanted to create a place for us and for others in the community where people could collaborate and get inspired". To the best of his knowledge "The studio is actually the largest studio in Interior B.C. between Vancouver and Calgary. The 3 wall "cylclorama" is completely unique to the Okanagan and Interior BC. Its' not just a photo video studio but it's a place for events, meetings, workshops, screenings, etc

Beyond the studio, the screening room, along with the audio mixing environment, we have created a creative house that offers clients a one stop shop for all their digital media needs.”

I caught up co-owners Kelly and Jeff to talk a bit about what the Film Factory is:
Here is a sampling of their video work around Kelowna:
One of the side effects of this dramatic growth in the Film Factory for Kelly is that he will be stepping down from OSIF (Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmakers) after volunteering with it for many years. This led to his recent Facebook post on the OSIF group (below) so if you want to get involved with our growing film industry in Kelowna mark your calendars for March 30th.
An OSIF Town Hall has been set for March 30th - 7:00pm at The Film Factory - 1126 Richter Street.
With the complete turnover of a whole new Board of Directors coming in April, OSIF would like to hold a meeting with all it's members and followers to discuss this transition, and future of OSIF going forward.
Please come to this meetup to share your ideas and suggestions, to network with other filmmakers and to learn how you can help OSIF build the local industry.
Topics of discussion will include:
- Year in Review
- The future of OSIF
- Nominations for election of new Board of Directors
- Current Financials
- Brainstorm session of ideas and suggestions for new incoming board
