Okanagan Fruit Tree Project

Finding a win win situation is always a good idea but rarely have I seen an idea that creates a triple win.
Folks today I'm going to introduce you to what is perhaps the best idea I've came across in years. Its called the Okanagan Fruit Tree Project and here is how it works

Win #1: They find a way to use the fruit from fruit tree's that woudn't otherwise be harvested.
Win #2 They do this through a volunteer network. The volunteers sign up with the Okanagan Fruit Tree Project and in return for helping pick the fruit they get to keep a bag or two of fresh fruit.
Win #3 The remainder of the fruit is then given to one of the charity partners in the community who now get the gift of fresh fruit that they can in turn provide to their clients.

They are actually in the midst of taking the plan one step further and having the clients of the various charities join the volunteer program - you can see why I love this project so much.

The fruit being picked goes to over 20 great causes such as the Kelowna Food Bank, Inn from the Cold, Metro, and many more.

I sat down with the President and Founder of the project, Casey Hamilton, recently to hear more about this intriguing community project.

This past weekend also saw the launch of a fun new theatrical production "Pirates in the Park", a collaboration between Festivals Kelowna and Bumbershoot Theatre. Below is a quick interview with the Artistic Director of that project. If your interested in seeing the show it happens two more times this summer at the following parks:

August 10th, City Park, 1pm
August 21st, Gerstmar Park, 7pm
