TimeDRIVE: Donate your time

TimeDRIVE is like a silent auction but instead of bidding with your money you bid with your time. Created in 2013 by Donnie Ungaro (Okanagan Young Professionals) and Heather Pesta (Gennext Kelowna) the original event raised over 1600 volunteer hours. Those hours donated by young professionals for local non-profits is valued at about $60,000.

The description they provide explains the reasons why they created the event:

"Participation will give you the chance to win great prizes including local art by pledging your time and skills rather than cash. Many of Kelowna’s young professionals would like to give back to their community however are not sure where to start, who to ask, or how to demonstrate their skills in support of others less fortunate.  They don’t always have disposable income to donate, but they do possess valuable skills and energy that can be beneficial to not-for-profits in need.

Not only will great connections occur between non-profits and young professionals, but the timeDRIVE Social will also highlight local organisations and opportunities to give back to the community. "

Here is a video shot last year at the timeDRIVE event:

This years timeDRIVE event takes place on Feb 21st at the Laurel Packinghouse. It open to anyone but those who want to attend are strongly encouraged to be ready to donate their time and skill. So if you are a photographer and have been looking at a way to give back to the community why not come out and donate your skill to a local non-profit.

Tickets for the event are $30 and can be purchased online here.
