Update: 1:54 p.m. from the RCMP:
"On Sunday December 13, 2009 at approximately 11:23 am a 46-year-old woman was struck by a car that tried to unsuccessfully cross Old Okanagan Hwy from Butt Road when he was hit by a north bound vehicle.
"The 37-year old driver of the offending vehicle was stopped at a stop sign on Butt Road at Old Okanagan Hwy. He had his two kids in the car with him. There was a vehicle headed north bound on Old Okanagan Hwy, however the offending vehicle thought he could get across Old Okanagan Hwy in time however the road conditions prevented him from doing so.
"He ended up spinning his tires with little forward momentum. The north bound vehicle could not brake in time and this driver saw that there were kids in the offending vehicle so he tried to avoid hitting the offending vehicle broadside. This caused him to hit the offending vehicle in the rear bumper area causing it to spin around twice. It was the action of the spinning offending vehicle that struck the 46 year old woman as she was walking on the roadway. There are no sidewalks in that immediate area.
"The woman was taken to KGH with a broken right elbow and wrist with some lacerations to her chin. A Motor Vehicle Act charge of Undo Care and Attention are being contemplated against the driver of the offending
vehicle.
"The Kelowna RCMP would like to advise motorists to slow down in adverse weather conditions and take more time than you regularly would to get to where you are going safely. There have been 4 accidents already today."
