New $400,000 video scoreboard at West Kelowna's Royal LePage Place unveiled

Video scoreboard unveiled

West Kelowna's Royal LePage Place has a new scoreboard.

The new $400,000 video scoreboard, installed over the summer, was unveiled Wednesday by the West Kelowna Warriors.

West Kelowna council authorized the expenditure during budget deliberations in January as part of a series of improvements to the arena.

Another $125,000 was spent to expand the media gondola while another $75,000 went toward electrical improvements, design and a standard contingency.

The state-of-the-art video scoreboard will provide Warrior fans with some of the best video presentations in the league with four 120 square foot video screens bringing the team’s broadcast and in-arena entertainment to the next level.

"We are thrilled to see the new video scoreclock come to life! It will deliver a tremendous boost to the fan experience at home games, offering features such as instant replay and fan engagement/entertainment opportunities,” said Warriors team president Chris Laurie.

“We’d like to thank the City of West Kelowna for their partnership and support on this project. We can’t wait to share it with the residents of West Kelowna!"

While the scoreboard was a request of the hockey club, city staff stressed it is owned, and operated by the city.

It replaces the outdated scoreboard installed when the building opened in 2007.

Improvements were paid for through the $10.2 million Growing Communities Fund, a provincial grant to help communities with infrastructure or amenity needs.
