Recent arrival from India among four killed in eBus crash on Okanagan Connector

A man who came to Canada recently on a work permit from India has been identified as one of the four people killed in Saturday’s bus crash on the Okanagan Connector.

A GoFundMe has been launched to pay for funeral expenses and to help the family of Karanjot Singh Sodhi, 41. The Tribune India newspaper also identified him.

The fundraiser launched by Kulwinder Bal of Surrey says Sodhi had arrived in B.C. just four months ago from India.

“He left behind his mother, wife, son (6 year) and daughter (3 year),” wrote Bal.

As of 8 p.m. Monday, more than $1,200 had been donated through the GoFundMe.

Sodhi is the first of the four passengers who died to be publicly identified.

Fifty-two other passengers were injured. Seven remain in hospitals in Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops.

The eBus was en route from Kelowna to Vancouver around 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve when it crashed along Highway 97C near the Loon Lake exit. Police said the highway was extremely icy at the time.
