Todd’s RV and Camping in Peachland closes for new residential development

After 66 years in the community, Todd’s RV and Camping is closing.

The business has been family-owned and operated since it first opened back in 1956.

The campground in Peachland, will close on the evening of Sept. 6 to make way for a residential development.

Last month, District of Peachland council unanimously approved the form and character development permit for the Beach Avenue project, now being marketed as the Crystal Lake Okanagan Residences.

The plan will see a half dozen six-storey terraced buildings constructed behind four single-family bungalows.

In all, the development will include 46 units of housing with prices starting at $1 million. The terraced units include dramatic views of Okanagan Lake and individual pools, at the purchaser’s request, on each patio. The pools are about 10 by 12 feet in size.

District staff said all parking requirements for residents are being handled on site, with 15 public on-street spaces being added.

Campground manager Graham Todd says it has been a tough weekend and it will be hard to say goodbye.

"I didn't expect it to be too tough. We have been saying bye to lots of customers all summer long, but this one being the final one it is tough," he said.

Todd says he sees a lot of the same people visiting every year. Some have even been coming for 50 years straight.

"We have had a customer spend 57 of her birthdays here."

Todd's grandparents Jean and Jeff were the original owners.

"There are actually six owners. Myself and my siblings, and I am the youngest of the six. Three of them are in their 70's and it is just time for us to move on."

Todd says he is looking forward to doing some of his own camping and RVing.

"66 years of serving the public is an awful long time and we are ready to venture out and see what it is like to be an RVer," he added.
