A battle of the bands competition will highlight Canada Day in West Kelowna

Canada Day bands battle

Calling all musicians.

The Westside Celebration Society, which produces Westside Daze and Canada Day is looking for some of the best amateur bands in the Okanagan to compete in the first Canada Day "Battle of the Bands."

Newly elected society president Mike Schell, says the competition will be open to 12 bands, regardless of genre and song choice...bands can play original music or covers.

Schell says potential contestants should send their electronic press kit to [email protected].

There is no cost to enter.

From there, Schell and his team will review the submission to ensure the quality is good before letting the acts know if they are in.

The list of entrants will be done on a first-come basis.

"Our focus and goal is to get live music back performing, because a lot of these bands haven't performed in two years," says Schell.

The top three band will win cash prizes as well a recording package through PureSound Recording Studios and Coastal Mastering Studios.

Prizes include:

  • First Place - $1000 plus one song studio session, mix and mastered, and performance video
  • Second Place - $500 plus one song studio session, mix and mastered, and band photo shoot
  • Third Place -$250 and one song studio session, mix and mastered

The Battle of the Bands will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Canada Day at Kinsmen Athletic Park on Shannon Lake Road.

Due to ongoing construction of the new West Kelowna city hall, both Canada Day and Westside Daze events will be held at Kinsmen Park.
