West Kelowna Warriors helped raise funds for organizations impacted by COVID over the last 12 months

Warriors $40K impact

Even as they were feeling the economic impact of the coronavirus, the West Kelowna Warriors found a way to assist other community organizations feeling the financial pinch.

Over the course of the last 14 months, through their Community Impact Fund, the Warriors have helped raise a little more than $40,000 to benefit eight separate causes.

These include:

  • KidsSport West Kelowna
  • Central Okanagan Food Bank
  • Beyond the Bell Program
  • Pastor Don’s Xmas Hamper Drive
  • MS Society of Canada
  • BC Cancer Foundation
  • Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada
  • West Kelowna Minor Hockey Association

The fund began in April of 2020, raising $6,780 for the food bank during the first West Kelowna Community Night, a partnership that also assisted local restaurants.

“We are very pleased with the contributions we and our fans have been able to fundraise during this challenging period of time. As we look forward to the return of the old normal, we are able to reflect positively on the impact we had on our community and those beneficiaries in need," said Warriors president Chris Laurie.

"As a small business with challenges of its own, to contribute over $40,000 during a global pandemic is something we are proud of. Thank you to our loyal fans and community partners for supporting our initiatives and allowing us to give back where it matters most.”"

Laurie says the Warriors plan to host other community initiatives throughout the upcoming regular season.
