A mountain biker was rescued and sent to hospital

An injured mountain biker along Smith Creek has been rescued by first responders.

A witness on the scene tells Castanet the female rider was 15 minutes up the Smith Creek Trail in West Kelowna when she injured her leg.

The West Kelowna Fire Department was called to the scene just after 3:00 p.m. to assist in a rescue.

"Fire crews used a basket stretcher to transport her down the hill," the witness said.

The biker has been transported to the hospital.
