Mountie allegedly assaulted after pulling over motorhome on Highway 97 in West Kelowna

Traffic stop goes sideways

RCMP say a man and woman were arrested Wednesday afternoon after assaulting an officer during a traffic stop in West Kelowna.

Police were called just after 4 p.m. for a report of a motorhome travelling south on Highway 97 without a licence plate. An officer pulled over the motorhome, which was towing a car, near Bartley Road.

RCMP say the male driver and female passenger refused to cooperate, so backup was called in. The driver was arrested for obstruction and both allegedly assaulted one of the officers before being taken into custody.

The 57-year-old man, and the 48-year-old woman were held in custody to appear prior to court. The man is facing several charges including obstruction and assaulting a police officer. The female is facing a charge of assault of a police officer.

“The officer suffered what are believed to be minor injuries in this instance,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy

The arrest slowed the highway to a crawl while officers worked during Wednesday's rush hour.
