Passer-by puts out burning mattress left on Crystal Mountain

Another unattended fire left to smoulder as temperatures soar in the Okanagan was doused by a thoughtful passer-by.

Dustin Herbst says he came across the fire, which appears to be an old mattress that had been set alight, in the bush on Crystal Mountain, above West Kelowna, on Sunday.

He says the fire was located close to the turn off to Jack Pine Lake.

"Myself and a friend used what water we had and cut a fire guard around it," he says.

Herbst notes the culprits left a distinctive water bottle behind at the scene, which may help identify who is responsible.
