UPDATE 2:10 p.m.
West Kelowna RCMP has released a statement about this morning's lockdown incident in Glenrosa, which started when a vehicle failed to stop for police.
Shortly after 10:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, West Kelowna RCMP were involved in an ongoing police investigation when they attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Glenrosa Road.
The driver failed to stop for police and left the location at a high rate of speed, which prompted officers to cordon off an area in the Glenrosa neighbourhood in their search for the vehicle.
Officers located the unoccupied vehicle a short time later, and a track was established with the support of RCMP Air Services and Police Dog Services.
The incident was not related to Glenrosa Middle School, confirmed police, and the notification was precautionary in nature. Police also notified several businesses in the area to ensure public safety.
West Kelowna RCMP says there is no current threat to the public, but the investigation remains ongoing.
“The West Kelowna RCMP wish to extend their thanks to all those who were impacted, for their patience, understanding and full cooperation during the temporary road and business closures.” adds Cst. Lesley Smith.
All businesses and schools affected by the incident due to being in close proximity have reopened, and Glenrosa Road is now open.
UPDATE 1:50 p.m.
RCMP appear to have left the Glenrosa area after a lengthy police incident.
One resident, who didn't want to be identified, told Castanet police had been going door-to-door on Gates Road telling people to stay inside.
She was told police were searching for a man on an ATV who allegedly had a weapon.
UPDATE 1:35 p.m.
Some students at Glenrosa Middle School are heading home after the school was placed on lockdown for about an hour.
One student told Castanet reporter Rob Gibson she was scared during the ordeal, and just wanted to go home.
Some students who spoke with Castanet said an announcement came over the PA system shortly after 11:30 this morning, telling them the school was on lockdown and to run to your classroom.
They were told to stay inside their rooms.
Once the lockdown was lifted about an hour later, students say they were free to move around the school, but asked to stay inside.
We are still awaiting word from RCMP as to the exact nature of the incident that led to the lockdown.
UPDATE 1:25 p.m.
Castanet reporter Rob Gibson is on the scene of a police incident in Glenrosa.
He reports the lockdown imposed at Glenrosa Middle School has now been lifted.
Students at the school were apparently ushered into their classrooms and the doors locked shortly after 11:30 this morning.
Staff are not commenting on what led to the lockdown.
RCMP have said only a highly fluid police incident was taking place. They are expected to release more information soon.
Residents of the area told Castanet police were looking for someone in a black hoodie.
UPDATE 12:40 p.m.
RCMP converged in Glenrosa have apparently told some residents in the area of the Morning Star Bible Camp to keep their doors locked.
Witnesses also indicate police have set up road blocks on several streets in the area.
Castanet will have further information as it becomes available.
UPDATE 12:09 p.m.
RCMP are on the scene of what they are calling a "police incident" in West Kelowna as of noon Tuesday.
Cst. Leslie Smith tells Castanet, "as with any police incident, this is a highly fluid environment and RCMP are advising people to stay away from the area so officers can deal with the situation without further risk to the public."

Glenrosa Middle School has been placed on lockdown by RCMP Tuesday morning.
Castanet has received several reports of an RCMP plane circling over Glenrosa near Gates Rd.
Glenrosa Middle School is located on McIver Rd and Glenrosa Rd.
Castanet has also received some reports that RCMP has asked some people in the Gates Rd. area to stay in their homes.
