West Kelowna is about to get its first recreational cannabis store, as Spiritleaf is preparing for its grand opening this weekend.
The 1,200-square-foot building is located at 104-1195 Industrial Rd., and will open its doors with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday.
“We’ve been working really hard, so we’re excited to share what we’ve done with the residents and guests of West Kelowna,” said owner Michael Adams. “It gives those guests first crack at the great store that we’ve put together.”
Adams began researching the possibility of opening a recreational cannabis store in August 2017. He ultimately joined forces with Spiritleaf, and his store received approval from West Kelowna city council last spring. Provincial approval arrived in early September, and the time since then has been spent getting the store ready.
“Patience has been pretty good,” Adams said. “Now that we see some light at the end of the tunnel, it’s hard not to get excited now. We’re looking forward to opening up, for sure.”
The first 50 people to visit the store on Saturday will receive a door prize. Spiritleaf West Kelowna will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
The City of West Kelowna has approved six recreational cannabis stores, including one run by the government that received approval only last Monday – much to the consternation of three councillors.
