Police investigating possible second West Kelowna luring incident

Second child luring incident

West Kelowna RCMP are investigating a second report of a possible child luring incident in less than a week.

Just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, a 10-year-old female was offered a ride by a male driving a silver vehicle.

The young girl was walking westbound on Pritchard Drive near Barona Beach when a male acting alone pulled up beside her and asked if she wanted a ride.

She declined, and ran up the street, where her older sister was waiting. The older sister says the silver vehicle then drove away at high speed towards Boucherie Road.

The male suspect is described as having dark skin with a possible Indian accent, dark hair, bushy eyebrows, large nose with a beard and mustache, and is approximately 30 years in age.

The make and model of the car are not known.

This after a similar incident on Cougar Road, Wednesday, in which an 11-year-old girl was approached by a man in a car.

Police are reminding parents to reinforce safety principles regarding stranger danger and remain alert when walking in the community.

“Our West Kelowna frontline officers and the General Investigation Section are continuing to investigate both recent suspicious incidents, however due to the differences in the suspect descriptions given, police do not feel the two incidents are related," says Const. Lesley Smith.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
