Bighorn sheep line Westside Road near La Casa

Bighorns not bashful

Rob Gibson

If you're driving on Westside Road near La Casa and Fintry, watch out for bighorn sheep on the road.

Meri Manowski sent us a photo of one sheep gazing out at the lake from the road, and the video shows one of the sheep licking the pavement so intently it can barely bring itself to make way for an oncoming vehicle.

According to the province's website, bighorn sheep are among the most social of British Columbia's hoofed mammals. They usually travel in groups of five to 20, and occasionally up to 100.

During most of the year, ewes and rams occupy separate ranges.

The video shows a herd of about 20 of the sheep all ranging close to, if not actually on, the roadway.
