UPDATE: 6:15 a.m.

DriveBC reports Highway 97 reopened at the scene of a serious collision in West Kelowna about 2 a.m.

Police say the crash involved four vehicles near the intersection of Boucherie Road. 

Southeast District Traffic Services and an RCMP collision deconstructionist had the entire highway closed from the Bennett Bridge to Boucherie Road for several hours.

One man suffered serious injuries in the crash.


UPDATE: 9:50 p.m.

RCMP are still on the scene of a serious four-vehicle crash on Highway 97 just north of Boucherie Road.

The collision occurred about 6:20 p.m. Monday.

One male driver was transported to hospital with what police are describing as serious injuries.

Both northbound and southbound lanes will be closed while RCMP investigators go over the scene to determine exactly what happened.

The highway, from the bridge to Boucherie Road is completely shut down in both directions.

People are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

Traffic is being rerouted along Westside Road.

“The investigation into the collision is in it’s early stages” says Const. Lesley Smith.

“RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or can provide dash cam video to please contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.”


UPDATE: 8:20 p.m.

DriveBC says it could be sometime tomorrow morning before Highway 97 just north of Boucherie Road is open again to traffic.

Northbound lanes have been closed for most of the evening following a four-vehicle collision between Boucherie Road and the Westside Road interchgange.

Witnesses at the scene say there were injuries, however, the extent of those injuries are not know.

Detours around the crash scene are available using Boucherie Road, Sneena Road or the Westside interchange.


ORIGINAL: 6:45 p.m.

A serious crash has virtually brought traffic to a standstill in West Kelowna.

The crash occurred between Boucherie Road and the Westside Road overpass.

The entire highway had been shut down in both directions, however, one witness tells Castanet a single southbound lane has now been opened.

Three vehicles and a truck were apparently involved in the crash.

The condition of those inside the vehicles are not known.

Early reports indicated at least one person may have needed extrication.
