The West Kelowna Fire Department welcomed 10 new firefighter recruits on Tuesday.
The new recruits will allow residents of West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation to expect fully staffed fire engines in their communities. Staff shortages have forced some fire halls to temporarily close in the past.
On May 25, Station 32 in Lakeview Heights was forced to close from 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. because of staffing shortages, but the West Kelowna Fire Department says these new recruits will fill those gaps.
The new recruits are expected to finish training by the beginning of October.
