Power back, boil the water

UPDATE: 11:30 a.m.

The West Kelowna power outage has been removed from BC Hydro's outage map.

The boil-water notice remains in effect, however.

UPDATE: 10:10 a.m.

A power outage in West Kelowna has caused the city to issue a boil-water notice.

Initially this morning, the city issued a water quality advisory, but upgraded it after consultation with Interior Health.

The boil notice affects the Sunnyside/Pritchard water system due to ongoing water supply challenges stemming from a continuing emergency power outage in the area.

Residents are asked to conserve water as the city works to refill reservoirs. Some water users may experience discoloured water and water pressure issues.

There is no change in BC Hydro's status on the repair, but some residents report power came back on at their homes about 6 a.m.

ORIGINAL: 9 a.m.

Power has been out in the Boucherie area of West Kelowna since late Sunday night.

BC Hydro's website confirms the power went out about 11:35 p.m. and remained off as its last update at 6:45 a.m.

The outage is said to affect 78 customers in the area east of Boucherie Road, west of King Road and south of Ourtoland Road.

Crews have been on site since last night, and the incident will require a pole replacement following reports of a single-car crash that resulted in a power pole catching on fire about 10:50 p.m.

Power is expected to return by noon.
