Fugitive taken into custody

A fugitive on the run for weeks has been taken into police custody.

RCMP arrested Dayton McAlpine outside a home on Douglas Road in West Kelowna.

On June 2, a person at the Westside Walmart recognized McAlpine, 32, from a CrimeStoppers ad.

Police rushed to the area, and McAlpine rammed his Ford F-150 pickup into two police cars before driving off at a high rate of speed and barreling towards one officer.

An officer then fired a shot at McAlpine’s vehicle in an attempt to stop him.

On Sunday, police located the pickup off Boucherie Road.

“The arrest, which was conducted by uniformed members of the West Kelowna RCMP First Nations Policing section, went without incident,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

McAlpine remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on June 18 at 9:30 a.m.
