Senseless vehicle vandalism

Alanna Kelly

The culprits of a senseless act of vandalism have struck again and police say they are putting people’s lives at risk.

A West Kelowna man left a driveway on Horizon Drive on Friday in his Dodge Ram and felt his front tires shuddering. “Three of the lug nuts were not even on at all and the other two were just tighter than finger tight,” said Daryan Dube.

This isn’t the first time the culprits have loosened lug nuts in the Okanagan.

Back on May 14, several Peachland residents woke up to find their lug nuts loosened and their gas syphoned from their vehicles. In the same week, police also responded to Shannon Lake in West Kelowna after a woman’s driver side tire fell off.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey described the incident as reckless and put at least four people’s lives at unnecessary risk.

“It is ridiculous, they are going to kill someone,” said Dube.

Residents believe the culprits are striking at night when they are sleeping.

“My mom lives just below Shannon Lake and she had her tires loosened as well,” he said. “She was driving and lost a couple of lug nuts.”

Police are asking residents to report these incidents immediately and are also asking for video surveillance footage that could identify the culprits.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information about this crime.
