Loosened lug nut warning

RCMP have expanded their warning to the general public, after several more instances of tire lug nuts being loosened.

The initial warning was issued on May 15 after several Peachland residents found their lug nuts loosened, one driver even had gas syphoned from their vehicle. The mischief occurred in the 6200-block of Winton Crescent in Peachland. The vehicle owners suspected that the act of vandalism was carried out overnight.

West Kelowna RCMP received a similiar complaint on Tuesday, after a Shannon Lake area woman’s front driver’s side tire fell off her Subaru Outback.

“These reckless acts compromised each of the vehicles and placed at least four lives at unnecessary risk,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP. “While driving along the highway, one of the victims noticed mechanical issues with the front end of her vehicle and chose to drive to a Kelowna automotive shop, where she learned about the apparent sabotage.”

“In this most recent case, police were told that the wheel fell off while the driver was attempting to return her vehicle home. Thankfully the woman was travelling at slow speeds, and was uninjured in the incident,” further adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.

Residents who find similar damage, are asked to report it immediately and RCMP are also urging residents to review any video surveillance footage they may have that could identify the culprits.
