Unattended fire found

An abandoned fire was found by a dirt biker on Sunday morning near the Glenrosa area.

Joseph Ouellet found flames and smoke coming from a pile of wood near the Jack Pine Forest Service and Crystal Mountain area at 11:30 a.m.

“Don’t worry, I put it out with dirt like they should have,” he said. “[It] was not hard at all, some people just don’t care.”

Ouellet said the fire looks like it was started the night before.

"No one was there, it looks like a fire from people partying last night," he said.

On average, the Wildfire Service says 40 per cent of fires over the past 10 years, or 666 per year, have been caused by humans.

A person can be fined $1,150 dollars for an unattended campfire.

BC Wildfire Service says if a violation causes a wildfire, the person responsible may also be ordered to pay all the firefighting costs as well as a fine.
