More $$$ for soccer dome

The City of West Kelowna is being asked to put up another quarter-of-a-million dollars for its multi-sport dome.

Staff are asking that an additional $261,000 be added to the budget as a contingency.

"These funds would only be used in the case of unforeseen construction costs and, if unused, would be returned to reserves once the project is complete," staff said in a report for council.

TKI Construction was awarded the contract, coming in $200,000 below the estimated cost.

However, the contingency was less than six per cent of the total cost of the contract.

"Based on the city's best practices, and in an effort to deal with unforeseen conditions throughout construction, a construction contingency of 15 per cent is recommended for the project."

The total value of the dome is $3.985 million.

The city expects to issue a building permit within the coming weeks, with substantial completion at the end of October.
