Beloved trail damaged

Alanna Kelly

A popular trail in West Kelowna has been damaged after a vehicle is believed to have driven through Glen Canyon Regional Park.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said she went for a walk on Glen Canyon trail Sunday morning and found the careless mess.

“I walked onto the trail from the Blue Jay Drive entrance and saw that there were tire marks that seemed more than just an ATV or a dirt bike,” she said.

She said the damage to the ground was at the beginning of Flume Trail and on Saturday it wasn’t there.

“I have never seen this kind of damage in the nine years I’ve lived here. It will take weeks to repair in the spring,” she said.

Regional District of Central Okanagan says no motorized vehicles are allowed in Glen Canyon Regional Park.

“It appears that someone had driven through, and then backed up, and then gotten stuck and backed up and up and over,” she said.

Other residents who went to see the damage on Sunday said it’s a shame that one person has to ruin the trail for everyone.

Castanet reached out to officials at the District of West Kelowna and also RDCO staff and are awaiting a response.

“Seeing this kind of devastation is very upsetting,” she said.
