'Knocked it down quickly'

Alanna Kelly

Residents living in the Glenrosa neighbourhood of West Kelowna are thanking firefighters on Sunday after a house fire was quickly extinguished.

The blaze broke out just after 7 p.m. on Saturday at a home on McIver Road surrounded by other homes and trees.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a working fire and worked quickly to stop the blaze from spreading through the entire home.

Nearby resident, Kerry Martinson said he was on his way home when he was following behind a fire truck and saw flames coming out of the home.

“They knocked it down really quick. It could have destroyed the whole place if they didn’t get there as fast,” he said.

Martinson said thankfully there was no damage to the other homes.

All four people inside the home and their three pets were all able to escape and neighbours said on Sunday they came to pick up belongings from the home.

Other neighbours expressed their concerns for the family and said they hope they have somewhere to stay.

Firefighters said the family is being cared for by Regional Emergency Support Services but it is not clear if they had insurance.
