Highway chase, arrest

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

Video from the scene of an arrest in West Kelowna shows four police officers collaring a suspect after a robbery at Dollarama.

The man was walking along Highway 97 towards Kelowna.

The officers got out of their cruisers and walked up to the man before apparently Tasering him. 

Once the man dropped to his knees, officers kicked away his bag, handcuffed him and took away a large stick he was carrying.

The man was escorted back to a police SUV.

Traffic appears to be flowing as normal on the highway.

Traffic was briefly backed up along Highway 97 near Elk Road in West Kelowna as police chased down a man Wednesday afternoon.

A witness tells Castanet that a man left Dollarama with a bag of stolen items.

Staff members yelled out that the man was stealing, and he allegedly threatened them with a stick-like object.

The suspect fled the scene, and the employees called 911.

Three police cruisers chased after the man, according to a witness, and apprehended him at Elk Road and Highway 97.
