Hearing on recount Friday

A hearing into Peachland's application for a judicial recount in Saturday's mayor's race will be held Friday morning.

The hearing will take place in Kelowna Provincial Court.

A time and date for the recount will be determined at that time, but it must be held by Nov. 2.

The municipality applied to the courts for a judicial recount of the ballots after a verification of the votes Monday left incumbent Cindy Fortin and challenger Harry Gough deadlocked with 804 votes each.

Gough held a one vote lead after the initial vote count following the election Saturday night.

If a winner is not declared following the judicial recount, the mayor will be determined by a draw.

The courts will oversee both the recount and the drawing of names if that is required.
