Roadside fires doused

UPDATE: 6:05 p.m.

Two separate spot fires burning in the La Casa area on Westside Road are now under control, after a quick response from the local fire department and the BC Wildfire Service.

Fire information officer Nicole Bonnett says the two fires were started right near Westside Road earlier Tuesday afternoon, but crews managed to contain the fires, keeping them from growing larger than 10 square metres.

The BC Wildfire Service responded to the scene with a three-person crew, to assist the local municipal fire department, presumably the nearby North Westside Fire Rescue.

Crews remain on scene putting out hot spots.
