Living in destroyed home

A 67-year-old man is stuck living with a massive hole in his roof after a windstorm wreaked havoc on his home.

Paul Whitfield woke up to a loud bang on June 25 and found a eight-foot tree branch right through the family room of his home at Antlers Beach Mobile Home Park.

“All I heard was a really loud bang, enough to wake me up, and I came out here and found this,” he said back in June.

Whitfield said he was lucky the branch didn't come through his bedroom.

Due to his age, he is unable to repair the roof himself.

“Paul owns his unit but pays pad rent and also pays utilities monthly which leaves nothing to do repairs,” said neighbour Michael Batt.

Batt said they are asking for help from the public and looking for plywood, black roofing paper and roofing shingles.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help fund the repairs. On Tuesday, GoFundMe donated $1,000 to the cause as part of their "Gives Back program."
