Body pulled from ditch

Contributed Tim Reid

Castanet has received graphic raw video from a reader which shows RCMP and emergency crews working to recover a body found last Thursday night in West Kelowna near Campbell Road and Campbell Place, just above Shelter bay Marina.

We warn you, this video may be offensive to some.

RCMP tell Castanet the discovery of the body is not considered suspicious at this time.

“This investigation remains in its early stages, as the police work together with the BC Coroners Service in an effort to positively identify the remains,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Although early indicators suggest that criminality was not involved in the person’s death, a final determination has not yet been made with respect to criminality at this time.”

Emergency crews responded to reports of a man down and complaints from an area resident Thursday night.

Castanet has learned that transients often use the area as a campsite. A resident who wished to remain anonymous indicated,"we saw them setting up and went over to investigate and then it all kind of went from there, not sure what happened after police showed up."
The identity of the body has not been released but it was spotted lying approximately 200 metres down the embankment, from the intersection of Campbell Place and Campbell Road in West Kelowna. Emergency officials arrived on scene and after investigating confirmed that the individual was in fact deceased.
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
