Mom eyes trustee seat

Chantelle Desroriers is the first non-incumbent to officially declare an intention to seek a seat on School District 23's board of education.

Desrosiers is running for the West Kelowna seat currently held by Julia Fraser.

The mother of two school-age children says she has volunteered in local schools and held a variety of positions in PAC's over the last nine years, most recently as PAC president at CNB.

She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Alberta.

Desrosiers says she hopes to apply that experience to "help shape the future of schools in West Kelowna."

“I am running because I value the influence our education system has on our children and our community. West Kelowna is a rapidly growing and dynamic community and we need to provide a diverse educational environment if we want to continue to thrive,” she said in a news release.

She said she is particularly concerned about challenges facing West Kelowna schools over the next few years, including implementation of grade reconfiguration in September, middle school and late entry French immersion in 2019.

"The next few years will require a more proactive and creative approach to addressing the issues at hand.”
