Evacuations continue

UPDATE 1:10 a.m.

The Mt. Eneas Wildfire has forced the evacuation of another 34 properties in the early hours of Thursday. 

An evacuation order was issued for six additional homes along Highway 97, a home at 365 Callan Road, and 27 homes from 429 - 528 North Beach Road. All evacuated properties are just south of Okanagan Lake Provincial Park, which was evacuated earlier. 

Evacuees from these properties have also been asked to register at the reception centre at the Penticton Community Centre, located at 325 Power Street.

Additionally, the District of Summerland has issued an evacuation alert for all properties along Garnet Valley Road, north of and including Wildhorse Road. Garnet Valley Road is on the other side of the hill from Highway 97 and Okanagan Lake. 

Highway 97, between Summerland and Peachland, remains closed due to the fire. 


UPDATE 11:30 p.m.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has now issued their own evacuation order to nine properties in the Greta Ranch area due to the Mt. Eneas wildfire. These evacuation orders are on top on the ones already issued by the Central Okanagan Regional District in Peachland.

All campground sites at Okanagan Lake Provincial Park have also been emptied.

An Emergency Social Services Reception Centre is open at 325 Power St. at the Penticton Community Centre.

A local state of emergency has also been declared for RDOS Area "F".


ORIGINAL 10:30 p.m.

Residents have been ordered to leave their homes due to a wildfire that has grown to 200 hectares on Wednesday night.

The Central Okanagan Emerengency Operations Centre has been active to support BC Wildfire Service Crews fighting the Mt. Eneas fire south of Peachland.

Properties in the Brent Road area, north of the fire have been asked to immediately leave their homes.

They include:

  • 7100 - 7210 Brent Road
  • 7212 – 7280 Highway 97 South

Antlers Beach Mobile Home Park resident John Wardley has been watching the flames from the wildfire all afternoon with gusting winds pushing the fire.

At 10 p.m. he said the campground and residents were evacuated.

An Emergency Support Services reception centre is being set up at the Lakeview Heights Baptist Church, 2630 Alhambra Drive in West Kelowna.

An ESS volunteer will be available starting at 11 p.m. tonight to help residents. 

Residents that are out of their homes must report to the reception centre to receive any assistance and lodging.
