Celebration of life for Hunt

A celebration of life for a 19-year-old man killed after an explosive fire in West Kelowna has been planned.

David Hunt is being remembered by friends and family as a bright light.

The fire broke out just after 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday and quickly engulfed the home on Elliott Road. Hunt’s brother Aleck Villeneuve was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital. Villeneuve’s girlfriend Chiara Boehlke was also taken to VGH.

"They have a very long and hard road to recovery. Aleck is currently in intensive care under sedation as his burns are very serious, but his condition is stable. Chiara is awake, but heavily medicated,” said Hunt’s mother Amanda.

The celebration of life will take place on July 10 at 202 Drake Road.

“It will be all day so everyone can have the chance to come by,” reads a Facebook post. “Anyone and everyone is welcome.”

Those attending are asked to bring pictures or memories to share.

“Anything you'd like to bring is welcome,” reads the post.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation is being supported by the RCMP's Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team.

“Thank you to everyone who has shown support through all of this,” said Amanda. “I am astounded at how much love is being sent our way, and it is a great relief to know what an amazing support system we have through this awful time.”
