Parents, friends mourn loss

David Hunt, the 19 year old who lost his life in an explosion and fire in a West Kelowna home Wednesday night is being remembered as a bright light.

Hunt's mother, Amanda, took to Facebook Friday afternoon.

"As many of you already know, Peter Hunt and our family are going through something that every parent fears, the loss of a child. David Hunt was such a bright light in so many peoples lives, always a smile and a joke and a 'creme de la creme.'

"He was the baby of the family and the glue that holds us together. We will never be the same with this loss. The outpouring of support from everyone who knew him, and some who hardly knew him at all warms my heart. He will be forever remembered and loved," his mother wrote.

Her eldest son, Aleck Villeneuve, and his girlfriend, Chiara Boehlke, were both injured in the fire and airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital.

"They have a very long and hard road to recovery. Aleck is currently in intensive care under sedation as his burns are very serious, but his condition is stable. Chiara is awake, but heavily medicated. Thank you to everyone who has shown support through all of this. I am astounded at how much love is being sent our way, and it is a great relief to know what an amazing support system we have through this awful time," Hunt wrote.

The post has over 40 shares and hundreds of comments.

"David was amazing, and his spirit is gonna live on forever, and he will never be forgotten," one commenter posted.

''My daughter was very fond of David. She often spoke of how he helped her when she was younger," a friend responded.

A GoFundMe page set up for the family has raised close to $3,000 with a goal of $25,000.
