Flagger struck in hit and run

RCMP in West Kelowna are looking for witnesses after a flagger was injured in a hit and run collision on Westside Road Monday morning.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. in an active construction zone in the 1100 block of Westside Road.

According to police, the traffic control person was stopping northbound traffic when the driver in the lead vehicle insisted on being let through.

The driver allegedly uttered threats during a verbal exchange, then proceeded to move forward, knocking the sign out of the flaggers hand, injuring her hand.

"The suspect allegedly stopped and exited his vehicle briefly when flagged over at the opposite end of the construction zone," said Cpl. Tania Carroll.

"The suspect was reportedly directed by the woman's coworkers to remain on scene to await the arrival of police. The suspect remained confrontational and allegedly fled the scene."

The vehicle in question was a white commercial Ford pickup. Police say they are following up with the company to determine the identity of the driver.

An independent witness apparently captured the incident on a dash cam.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
