Madison Erhardt

UPDATE: 3:15 p.m.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find staff extinguishing a small fire in the back of the salon.

"It was an exhaust fan. It looks like there was a mechanical issue where the fan and the motor overheated," said Assistant Fire Chief Darren Lee.

Nobody was injured, and business in the salon was only halted for a few minuets.

What was thought to be an explosion in the back of a beauty salon turned out to be something much less.

Numerous fire crews in West Kelowna were dispatched to Natural Beauty Salon and Spa on Dobbin Road about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It turned out an exhaust fan at the back of the business had heated up.

Employees and customers evacuated while firefighters looked for the cause.
