Fed up with parties

Alanna Kelly

UPDATE: 10:20 a.m.

A West Kelowna resident living below a cul-de-sac that has become a party spot for teens says he has witnessed individuals drinking and driving and feels they are a danger to everyone in the neighbourhood.

The resident told Castanet the issue has been going on for close to two years.

"Those punks are constantly smoking dope, drinking, swearing, fighting and screaming, revving their cars, doing burnouts and donuts, driving extremely dangerously while drunk,” the resident said.

According to the homeowner, there have been numerous occasions when the teens have thrown items at homes and vehicles.

“We have made countless calls to the police, and when they finally arrive, the kids just throw their cases and bottles of booze over the bank to return and collect them after the police have left."

“The police barely give them a warning and send them on their way, allowing them to drive away after drinking.”

The man said both males and females urinate on the side of the street, even when residents are out in their yards.

“This is become so far out of hand that it's become dangerous for anyone living in the area,” he said. "This has to stop!"

West Kelowna residents have had enough and are demanding the nightly partying at the end of their street comes to an end.

Every night since October, multiple vehicles drive to the cul-de-sac on Upper Sundance Drive, keeping residents up for hours and leaving them with trash the next morning.

“Empty liquor containers, used condoms, McDonalds’ and Wendy’s garbage bags, empty water bottles … you name it,” said Shamus Arnold. “There is just no regard for the people who live on this street.”

Families living on the street have been listening to swearing and loud music for months now.

“Noise, hollering, swearing, speeding, people using the front yard as a restroom,” he said.

One resident caught two young women urinating on their front lawn at 1 a.m. a few nights ago.

“It’s become the lovers' lane of West Kelowna,” Arnold said.

According to two separate residents, multiple vehicles pull into the culdesac nightly.

“It's getting to be a horrible mess up here, with people using it as their personal party spot, leaving garbage behind them when there is a garbage can 10 feet (away)."

The houses just a few steps away are only a few years old.

“You wouldn’t want this in your backyard, so why do it to ours?” said Arnold.
