West Kelowna is following the lead of at least one other Okanagan community by suing pot shops for operating without a valid business licence.
The city filed a petition in BC Supreme Court Tuesday against Black Crow Herbals Association, Okanagan Cannabis Solutions Society, Selina Lau, Ralph Krehbeil and Matthew Nicholas.
The five have been operating without a business licence since Nov. 1.
Since then, the city has been issuing $1,000 tickets to each on a daily basis.
Despite that, each remains open.
Earlier this month, the City of Kelowna took similar action against five pot shops it says are operating illegally without a business licence.
West Kelowna is asking the court to declare the businesses are contravening the city's zoning bylaws and cease operating within five days of a court order.
Operators on both sides of the lake have stated they will continue to operate and will not let their clients suffer.
Court cases could be heard early in the new year.
